Village 7, also known as North Natomas Village, has a small signature that the other numbered villages lack: many of its streets are named after artists, running from Renaissance painters to more contemporary figures. It is a modest quirk, but it gives the pocket a bit of identity a few miles north of downtown on the area's flat former farmland. The housing is tightly grouped contemporary suburban homes on planned streets, with the parks and paths typical of Natomas. Getting around is easy: I-5 is close, the regional Natomas shopping is within reach, and the airport and downtown are each a quick drive. The tradeoffs are the familiar Natomas ones, a car-oriented layout, modest mature shade on the newer streets, and the flood-protection context that levee work has addressed. What tips Village 7 slightly ahead of its neighbors is that touch of character. The appeal is newer homes with planned amenities and a little more personality than the numbered name suggests, and the artist street names are the kind of detail residents end up mentioning first.
