Neighborhood Reviews & Questions

Neighborhood Review
Key Words: College Campus, Light Rail, Central South

This boundary is the Sacramento City College campus and the blocks immediately around it, an institutional area more than a conventional neighborhood. The college is one of the oldest community colleges in the state, set along Freeport Boulevard between Land Park and Curtis Park, with its quad, athletic facilities, and a light rail station serving it on the south side. Some student-oriented housing and older homes ring the campus, but most residential life happens in the Land Park, Curtis Park, and Carleton Tract neighborhoods surrounding it. For those areas, the college is a genuine anchor: classes and jobs, events and sports, and a light rail stop that puts transit within walking distance. As a place to live, it is a campus first, which means the rhythm of the academic calendar and the parking pressure that comes with it. That is the honest tradeoff of buying right up against a college. Its real value is as the educational and transit anchor for the central-south neighborhoods nearby, one of the reasons those addresses stay connected and in demand rather than a place you move onto directly.
