Northridge covers a broad stretch of northwest Fair Oaks, one of the larger established tracts, laid out as the community's postwar suburban expansion pushed north and west of the Village. The streets are conventional suburban, the lots comfortable, and the canopy mature enough to give the older blocks real shade. Northridge Elementary sits within the neighborhood, and the arterials that frame Fair Oaks put shopping and Highway 50 access within a reasonable drive. The tradeoff is that this is workaday suburban stock without the terrain drama of the river pockets or the walkability of the Village, and upkeep varies block to block. Its strength is being ordinary in the good sense: sizable, shaded, and priced below the marquee corners of Fair Oaks. The school inside its own boundaries and the decades of mature planting are what keep it on shortlists, even when the individual house is a plain 1960s original waiting on a remodel.
