McClellan Meadows sits in the north part of the community, and its story is written into its name. These are the tract homes built in the early 1950s in the shadow of what was then McClellan Air Force Base. The result is one of the more consistent stretches of housing in North Highlands, block after block of single-story ranch homes from roughly 1951 to 1953, on regular lots with no homeowners association to answer to. That consistency is the appeal. Because the homes went up together to a similar plan, the streetscape reads as a whole rather than a patchwork, and the modest three-bedroom footprints keep prices among the most reachable in the region. The tradeoff is the neighbor to the west. McClellan Park is now a working business and industrial park rather than a base, so this is not a leafy or scenic setting, and everyday shopping is a drive out to the arterials. What you get is a straightforward single-story house with a yard at a real entry price, no pretense and no premium. The trees have had seventy years to fill in, which is more than the newer edges of the north county can say.
