Capitol Goss is a residential East San Jose neighborhood tucked between Alum Rock Avenue and the Capitol Expressway corridor, with A.J. Dorsa Elementary anchoring it from inside. It is flat, older single-family tract stock on quiet interior streets, the kind of settled, affordable pocket that makes up much of the East Side. The housing is older single-family tract homes with driveways and small front yards. Plenty have been expanded or refreshed over the years, so a single block often mixes original facades with remodeled ones, and the lots are flat from one end of the neighborhood to the other. Alum Rock Avenue is where people eat. Tacos Monarca, out near the expressway, is a regular stop for tacos and a quick weeknight dinner. Window Cafe, a tiny counter farther west on Alum Rock, makes coffee and tea and runs a drink happy hour on weekday afternoons. Closer to King Road, the Mexican Heritage Plaza fills its theater with mariachi and folklorico performances on a steady calendar through the year, and the plaza is an easy evening out without leaving the East Side. Capitol Expressway is the working spine. VTA's Orange Line ends its run on South Capitol Avenue at Alum Rock Transit Center, where Rapid 522 also heads west toward downtown, and the 101 and 680 on-ramps are close. Groceries and errands mean a short drive in one direction or another. Open space is a drive too. Lake Cunningham Regional Park, to the south, has a jogging path that circles the lake and an Action Sports Park for skaters and BMX riders. The honest tradeoffs are the expressway traffic on the edge, the older housing, and a workaday streetscape without a signature park or retail node at its center. For a buyer who wants an affordable, school-anchored East Side street with easy expressway access, Capitol Goss is a reasonable, low-key choice.
